I received a email after I rang the Randwick City Council. They replied to my inquiry of create the Market St crossing island a raised pedestrian with a NO because of these problems I will now state.
Firstly, a survey that the council made showed that most people who crossed through the island failed check if a vehicle was stopping before the kerb. So if the council did put a pedestrian crossing people would be even more slack and be at more risk of getting run over.
Secondly, the visibility on Darley Rd is significantly reduced in the morning and at night and at the peak time of people crossing is in the morning witch will put many people in danger.
In conclusion they stated that the pedestrian accessibility is at its greatest.
